Free dogs in Morocco

Join exciting field projects studying free-ranging dog behavior in Morocco, and gain hands-on experience in animal behavior research!

Projects
– Social learning in adult free-ranging dogs
– Vocal communication in free-ranging dog puppies

We offer two starting dates: January and April 2026 for internships of 6 months.
The thesis topic will be discussed with the PIs before the internship is confirmed.
Thesis supervision will be entirely remote, as the internship takes place full-time at our field site in Morocco. Field work supervision is provided by two on-site research assistants.
Selected candidates will actively contribute to ongoing fieldwork and thesis writing during the 6 months period.

Fieldwork Activities
– Scanning the field site to record proximity patterns in adult dogs
– Behavioral observations and testing of puppies
– Participation in additional student projects

Qualifications
– Currently enrolled in the 2nd year of a relevant Master’s program
– English spoken and written mandatory
– Comfortable working under warm temperatures and field conditions (extensive walking)
– Comfortable working flexible hours (early mornings or late afternoons)
– Comfortable and confident working around free-ranging dogs
– Ability to work and live collaboratively in a multinational team
– Respectful of and adaptable to the local culture and lifestyle

Requirements
– Non-remunerated position
– Accommodation provided (shared with other students and research assistants)
– Full rabies vaccination required prior to traveling to the field site
– Travel insurance mandatory
