Subject area
The subject covers spatial processes and patterns in terrestrial populations and species communities and how these are affected by land use, landscape change and climate from local to regional and global levels.
Duties
The holder shall be responsible for the development of research and education in the subject of landscape ecology in collaboration with the faculty and the university’s other researchers and teachers. Furthermore, the holder shall, within the subject of the appointment
develop and lead internationally outstanding basic research in ecology with potential for practical applications
develop, strategically lead and participate in teaching at first, second and third cycle level
supervise doctoral students
maintain existing and develop new national and international networks and collaborations with academia, relevant authorities, industries, organizations and society at large
collaborate with other research groups within SLU to strengthen the university’s interdisciplinary activities
apply for external research funding at both national and international levels
contribute to the strategic development of the department, faculty and SLU
communicate research findings and other relevant information to society at large.
The professor is expected to lead a research group, which may include administrative tasks such as budgeting and personnel management.
Swedish and English are used in parallel at the department. The professor should be able to perform the majority of their tasks in English. However, as a public authority, the university has Swedish as its main language according to the requirements of the Language Act and the professor must be able to use Swedish as their working language within four years of beginning the position. The department will provide support with language learning.
Eligibility
The applicant must meet the following qualification requirements:
a doctoral degree and the qualifications required for appointment as associate professor (docent) or equivalent
research expertise in the subject area
the ability to lead and develop a successful research team
the ability to competitively obtain external research funding
pedagogical skills and the ability to integrate research and a scientific approach into teaching
good knowledge of English.
