Hello
Sorry for the short notice. Please distribute as appropriate.
Pending final administrative decisions, I will have a PhD fellowship starting from autumn 2025.
The idea of the thesis project is to study the effect of evolutionary tree neighbourhoods on the resistance of trees to climatic stress. This includes phylogenetic neighbourhood across species and genetic neighbourhood within species. For both questions there are extensive, decade-long databases from “classical” and urban forests across Europe, France, and the city of Rennes, permitting to study and compare many focal species. I am happy to provide more information on request. And there is liberty to develop own questions in collaboration with supervisors
Supervision is by Andreas Prinzing (https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Andreas-Prinzing-2/research), Keliang Zhang (https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Zhang-Keliang ) and Jörg Müller (https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Joerg-Mueller-18 ). Main locality of work is University of Rennes, France (https://www.univ-rennes.fr/en). The salary is approx. 1650 Euros/month for 3 years, which permits a decent life at Rennes (https://eco.univ-rennes.fr/en/cost-living-rennes), which in itself is a decent place (https://www.tourisme-rennes.com/ https://www.brittanytourism.com/destinations/the-10-destinations/rennes-and-brittanys-historic-gateways/rennes/ , https://www.brittanytourism.com/ ), at 1h30 by train from Paris (just in case whether is bad in Rennes). Starting data would be around October 1st.
The candidate should have (i) a Master or equivalent in ecology, evolutionary biology, botany or forestry, (ii) interest in the interface between ecology and evolution, (iii) interest and ideally experience in working on databases, (iv) experience in statistical analyses. A driving license would be helpful. Proficiency in French would facilitate your private life but is not needed for professional life.
Please send CV to andreas.prinzing@univ-rennes.fr .
Evaluation of candidatures will start 7 of July and continue until post is filled.
Best regards
Andreas Prinzing
