Hello!
The Insect Welfare Research Society (https://www.insectwelfare.com/) is an academic society founded in 2023, which aims to support 1) the global insect welfare research community and 2) the incorporation of evidence-based information on insect welfare into the policies and practices of relevant stakeholders. The society also supports research into the welfare of less-studied terrestrial arthropods (e.g. spiders and other arachnids, myriapods such as millipedes, etc.) and aquatic invertebrates (e.g. shrimps, horseshoe crabs, etc.).
As part of this dynamic, the IWRS has recently established a committee of young researchers and is looking for students and post-docs interested in taking part. The committee meets every month, and defines a concrete objective to be explored over a given period. Its current objectives include:
• Raising awareness of the issues surrounding the well-being of invertebrates among students, researchers, the general public and industry actors;
• To create a network of people involved in these issues, through the organization of workshops, collective actions or the creation of tailored content.
The committee’s activities remain open: initiatives or new directions proposed by members are welcome!
If you’re interested in these issues, we’d love to hear from you! You can contact us at the following addresses:
