The Role
The Falkland Islands Fisheries Department is looking to recruit a Stock Assessment Scientist to undertake stock assessments of commercially important fishery species and provide timely scientific advice to the Government for the long-term sustainable management of the fisheries.
The Person
The successful candidate must hold a PhD in a relevant biological, fisheries, or quantitative discipline, or have demonstrable equivalent experience in a stock assessment role. They must have strong theoretical and applied knowledge of fisheries stock assessment, including population dynamics and quantitative modelling, and a proven ability to develop and implement novel modelling approaches, underpinned by a high level of competence in modern statistical methods.
The successful candidate should have a track record of peer-reviewed publications, alongside the ability to communicate research findings clearly to both scientific and non-specialist audiences – including through reports and presentations to stakeholders, and at conferences. Experience with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification process is desirable.
The Package
* Fixed Term Contract, up to 4 years.
* Starting Salary, basic starting salary £42,641 – £49,090 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience), rising to £52,555.
* Eligibility for a 25% gratuity, payable on successful completion of the contract
* 30 days Annual Leave, plus government and public holidays (totalling 41 days leave).
* Relocation Allowance, to help with moving costs.
