The aim of this workshop is to introduce you to the individual-based models and to train you to use the NetLogoR package (Bauduin et al. 2019) to build and run individual-based models with R. After an introduction to individual-based models, we’ll show you how to build these models with NetLogoR, parameterize them and report them in scientific papers. A coding exercise in small groups will further familiarize you with the package. Finally, you’ll work on your personal project, followed by a short presentation to the group at the end.
The workshop lasts 2.5 days and will take place from Monday June 23, 2025 (1.30pm) to Wednesday June 25, 2025 (4.30pm), at the Centre d’Écologie Fonctionnelle et Évolutive (CEFE) in Montpellier. The workshop will be given in English. Speakers will be Sarah Bauduin, Cassie Speakman and Cesar Herraiz Fernandez.
To get the most out of the course, you’ll need a good knowledge of the R language and the basics of R programming (loops and creating simple functions). Knowledge of individual-based models and/or NetLogo is a plus, but not mandatory.
Please register on https://forms.gle/soUwz4WTbTqeEBJQ9 before the end of April. For further information, please write to sarah.bauduin@ofb.gouv.fr. Confirmation will be sent by email at the end of May.
The number of participants is limited to 20. The course is free of charge, but you will be responsible for your own travel, accommodation and meal expenses (on-site canteen for lunches, meals at 14 euros).
