You will be working in the EcoFlowS team (https://ecoflows.inrae.fr/) of the RiverLy research unit (INRAE, https://riverly.inrae.fr/), which is offering a postdoctoral research position as part of the Biodiversa project COSAR (https://cosar.hub.inrae.fr/). The COSAR project involves research teams from France, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland. It aims at better characterizing the environmental contexts (considered both spatially, including multiple scales of interest, and temporarily through legacy effects) that influence observed results for more than 200 physical restoration operations on streams spread over Europe. One main novelty of COSAR relies in considering restoration outcomes jointly through both their ecological and societal aspects, and in analysing their relationships patterns and the factors explaining these patterns, which is the object of this missions. COSAR is a 3-years project that started in April 2022.

In particular, your main activities will be:
– Handling the ecological and societal metrics datasets already developed in COSAR
– Handling the available spatial layers of environmental factors and stressors gradients at their scales of interest (from site to watershed scales)
– Analysing the relationships patterns between the different metrics used in COSAR
– Identify the environmental context generating the most beneficial conditions to a successful restoration operation, considered in both ecological and societal aspects
– Participate to the different workshops and work meetings of COSAR, involving European research colleagues and stakeholders
– Write a scientific publication synthesizing your results
– Participate to the writing of a fact-sheet presenting the project results to stakeholders.

Under the direct supervision of Jérémy Piffady, you will also closely interact with Céline Le Pichon (INRAE HYCAR research unit) and with the other European researchers involved in the project. You will also interact with 2 post-docs who already work on the project. You will have the opportunity to be a core contributor to the rich scientific and social interactions in a team including approx. a tens of PhD and postdoctoral researchers, and to participate in other project sampling campaigns.
