A 2-year English Master’s study programme in Sustainable production and Utilisation of Marine Bioresources is offered at Hólar University, ICELAND.
The program is open for admission until 05th of June 2026, only for EU students (Schengen) at Hólar University Iceland:
The program runs since 2019 and is under the coordination of Camille A. Leblanc for Hólar University Iceland, Kristina Sundell at the University of Gothenburg and Viviane P. Verlhac Trichet at Nord University.
The programme is designed with 60ECTS courses (first year) and 60 ECTS research credits (second year), with mobility between universities.
Our programme targets inter- and transdisciplinary approaches to aquaculture along with the interactions between aquaculture, fisheries, and production and utilization of marine bioresources, also including sustainable development and entrepreneurship. This includes also ecological studies of various marine organisms, population dynamics, and ecological impacts of production on the environment.
The teaching and research opportunities at Hólar University are tailored towards ecology of aquatic systems, natural resources, fish biology, animal behaviour and limnology.
Mobility and network building is a key for the program! There are three mandatory weeks of mobility during the first semester organised within 3 mandatory courses at each partner universities. From semester 2 and onwards you should also do a longer mobility (30 credits, ECTS) when you chose courses from any of the two partner universities that are not your home university. This means that through the programme you will have a fantastic opportunity to visit and get to know the research and marine bioresource environment of all three countries!
In this program, students are trained in sustainability in production of marine bioresources, and the blue circular economy. This prepares you for a number of different job opportunities – as a PhD student or within the industry – within marine circular economy. You will develop knowledge and skills within marine food production systems. You will build networks and partnership opportunities with academic institutions, the industry and authorities.
