The Department of Eco-Evolutionary Modelling at the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart (Germany) seeks a doctoral or postdoctoral researcher (m/f/d). Preferred starting date is January 1st 2025, initially until March 31st 2027, with the possibility of an extension. Salary and conditions are according to public service positions in Germany (TV-L E13; initially 50 %; see https://oeffentlicher-dienst.info/tv-l/allg/).
The Department of Eco-Evolutionary Modelling (chaired by Dr. Korinna Allhoff, see https://eco-evolutionary-modelling.uni-hohenheim.de/en/english) aims at understanding the relation between structure and stability of complex interaction networks, their eco-evolutionary emergence, as well as their long-term responses to disturbances and changing environmental conditions. We address our research questions from a theoretical perspective, using a mix of tools, including individual-based modelling, dynamical systems theory and Adaptive Dynamics. The new team member will carry out an independent research project in the field of theoretical ecology, focussing on the robustness of plant systems, under the supervision of Dr. Korinna Allhoff.
Applicants should hold a very good MSc or PhD degree in biology, physics, mathematics or a related discipline and show a strong interest in ecological and/or evolutionary theory. Very good knowledge in mathematical and/or individual-based modelling as well as very good English language skills are required. German language skills are helpful, but not mandatory. Prior experience in analysing ecological networks and/or eco-evolutionary feedback is an advantage. Dissemination of results at national and international conferences as well as publication of results in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals is expected. The position furthermore includes a teaching obligation of 2 hours per week during the semester, which might include tutorial classes in the field of computational ecology and/or student supervision.
Application deadline : 24.11.2024
