Description of the team and the position:
The team does some research into the diversity of mycorrhizal symbioses, the structure of mycorrhizal fungal communities in the environment and in the roots, and the complex networks connecting plants to mycorrhizal fungi. We also study the systematics and evolution of land plants and Fungi.
This postdoc contract is part of the ANR EPIFUN project studying the structure and functioning of mycorrhizal symbioses in the tropical epiphytic environment. Several studies have already been carried out, on the fine spatial structure of fungal communities on the bark and the effect of epiphytic roots (, on the common mycorrhizal networks in epiphytic communities, or on the distribution of mycorrhizal fungi between different host trees (host preference). The next stages of the project aim to characterize the vertical stratification of these fungal communities and these symbioses on the tree, and the exchange of nutrients (carbon in particular) in these mycorrhizal networks via isotopic labelling.
The postdoc will run two objectives of the project; e.g. a study on the vertical stratification of mycorrhizal fungal communities on the tree, and an experiment in isotopic labelling of mycorrhizal networks directed by a previous study. To do so, he or she will take part of two sampling campaigns in French overseas regions in February 2022 and March 2023 (exact periods and destinations to be specified). Before the first expedition, he or she will be able to help the team with the processing and analysis of a previous sampling on the distribution of mycorrhizal fungi between different host trees.

Skills and knowledge:
Doctorate obtained in a French or foreign university. He or she has carried out doctoral and / or postdoctoral research in community ecology, particularly microbial ecology, and has some knowledge of mycorrhizal symbioses. Skills in the molecular biology laboratory (preparation of amplicon pools), in bioinformatics (metabarcoding data), and an ability to work in the field in tropical rainforest, are expected for this position.
