Dear Colleagues,
probably at least some of you have heard about the humanitarian crisis at the Poland/Belarus border, which started in August last year. Now our government started construction of 5.5 m high wall alond the border, which is going to be 186 km long and will be unpenetrable for any bigger vertebrates. Thus, they are adding the ecological disaster atop of the humanitarian crisis. It will cut the outstanding Białowieża Forest into pieces, its ecosystem will loose its integrity. I don’t have to explain you what are the potential negative effects of this barrier to nature. Some arguments are given in our Letter to Science: 10.1126/science.abn0451
I’m asking you to support an open letter from the scientific community regarding the construction of a wall on the Polish-Belarusian border and its impact on local wildlife. It will be sent to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans and the European Commissioner for the Environment Virginijus Sinkevičius.
The letter is in two versions, Polish and English. If you agree with the content of the letter and would like to add your signature, you may do it the link below:

I encourage you not just to sign it but also to send it further to scientists from your networks.

With kind regards from the militarized exclusion zone at the border
