Starting date: April 2022

The post-doctoral fellow will conduct a systematic review of the scientific literature, according to the standards of the “Collaboration for Environmental Evidence“, on ocean-based solutions to mitigate and adapt to climate change. Ocean-based solutions are receiving increasing attention by governments, NGOs, industry and finance. They include nature-based solutions, marine renewable energies, and engineering methods that allow carbon sequestration in the ocean and adaptation to inevitable changes. The effectiveness, efficiency and the environmental and societal impacts of these approaches still need to be rigorously assessed. The systematic literature review will contribute to this assessment in order to take stock of the potential of ocean-based solutions and perform an inventory of the progress of international and national research in this field, which will help identify knowledge gaps and prioritize research. The goal is to provide an objective and documented set of answers to specific questions in particular: What are the impacts of carbon storage engineering and renewable marine energies on biodiversity and ecosystem services? How do mitigation and adaptation measures link to societal issues such as biodiversity conservation and food security? What are the measures that could be deployed in the French territories and the possible obstacles to their implementation?

The post-doc will be hosted in Montpellier (France) by the CESAB. The post-doctoral contract is funded in the framework of the Priority Research Program (PPR) “Ocean and Climate”, set up by the French government for a duration of 6 years (2021-2027) and led by CNRS and Ifremer.
